To perceive a risk is to identify, and then evaluate it. The perception of risk can be overestimated, leading to overly-protective behaviour or, on the other hand, be underestimated, leading to other types of hazards.
Risk perception is a central element in risk communication and, therefore, risk prevention. The detailed analysis that is carried out in advance will be useful in all stages of communication. However, it should be kept in mind that there are differences both in the way risks are perceived and in the strategies for managing them. It’s all about optimizing acceptance of prevention measures!
